A Debt Collection Fact of the Month

According to the Federal Trade Commission's Annual Report on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, in 2009 the FTC received 119,364 complaints from consumers regarding third-party debt collectors and creditors' in-house debt collectors. This was an increase of over 14,000 complaints over the previous year and accounted for almost 23% of all of the complaints received by the FTC during 2009. It stands to reason that there are many more consumers who are being harassed and treated unfairly by debt collectors who are not aware of their rights and who never complained to the FTC. Therefore, it is likely that these numbers represent only a small percentage of the overall number of violations of the FDCPA that occur in this country year after year.

If you are a part of these statistics, you don't have to waste another day putting up with the unfair, illegal and annoying tactics of debt collectors.
